George Heriot School...

Open crossing to Firkin Point...
Over the past fortnight (13th - 23rd June 2016) I have had the pleasure of spending 5 days working with George Heriots school of Edinburgh. Each day we had a different group from the same year group. Each day we set off from Rowardennan youth hostel.

During these five days I have been working alongside Ryan, Danny and Connor guiding the pupils and teachers in open canoes on Loch Lomond and introducing the groups to bushcraft and shelter building skills.

Due to having different weather patterns each day we were fortunate enough to do something different each day with the pupils. This included paddling south from the youth hostel to Port na Craoibhe, paddling north to The Yett of Ptarmigan, circumnavigating the small isle of Eilean nan Deargannan and an open crossing to Firkin point.

During our lunch stop each day, Danny would introduce the pupils to fire lighting, shelter building and knife work before we guided everyone back to the youth hostel for a debrief before departure.

Some excellent days on the water and some great groups of pupils and teachers. A real pleasure.

Recent work...

Canoes moored on Inchmurrin Isand...
The past few weeks I have enjoyed being busy continuing work for 'Cany You Experience' based on Loch Lomond.

The work has consisted of various events and several open canoe guiding sessions.

One corporate event, Opertion Bravehert, consists of various activities such as archery and orienteering and culminates with a team canoe race aroung the Eastern end of Inchmurrin Island.

Another School event comprises several teams undertaking various activities such as canoeing, team building and raft building.

The majority of the canoe sessions start from Drumkinnon Bay and culminate with an open journey around the Southern end of Loch Lomond.

Plenty busy weeks ahead with more canoe sessions and events to come.

Inchcailloch Family Day...(30th May 2016)

Henry and AJ enjoying the sunshine...
Having had consistant sunny weather for weeks now we took the opportunity to introduce our youngest son, Henry, who is six months old (was 5 during the trip) to open canoeing.

We set off from Balmaha and headed North West before following the Western edge of Inchcailloch and stopped close to Port Bawn for some lunch.

Having fnished lunch we followed the Eastern edge of the island and landed back in Balmaha. A successful circumnavigation around Inchcailloch and a great family day out.
